West Kowloon Cultural District|" SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024" Exhibition
Description
In the year in which SaloneSatellite marked its 25th anniversary, the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection 1998-2024 Exhibition, put together at the request of IDFFHK International Design Furniture Fair Hong Kong, will take a selection of one hundred and four pieces from the Permanent Collection to the Arts Pavilion in Hong Kong (11th – 21st November 2024).
The selection of works for the Hong Kong exhibition also provides a snapshot of the new SaloneSatellite Collection, and an overview of the new content and aesthetics promoted by the up and coming generations of designers in the world of furnishing and everyday objects. Founded in 1998, SaloneSatellite has inevitably become a reservoir and an antenna for the changes taking place in the history of design between the old and new Millennium. It shows how young people have gradually contributed to building our present and laying the foundations for their own professional future. Years on, some concepts will be validated, becoming “icons,” while others are testament to the obligatory steps in promoting the new in terms of functionality and shapes. Everyone has a genuine ambition to come up with suggestions for good living in the contemporary world. Wood, glass, metal, textiles, cork and resins - no material is out of bounds, and that includes the most recent and innovative ones. The same applies to processing techniques: from the most traditional to 3D printing. With both small and large objects in tow, the designers make their way to SaloneSatellite with concepts and experiments of every possible kind, catching the eyes of and appreciated by industry entrepreneurs with their ear to the ground and who want to include them in their catalogues. The Permanent Collection and this exhibition are designed to underscore just this. Perhaps even, as happens during SaloneSatellite at the Salone del Mobile.Milano, it is basically up to the general public to yet again tease out the languages and meanings that the pieces contain and reveal.
